My bathroom faucet puts out a sand-type material when I turn on the water. I cannot figure out where is it coming from and neither can my handyman. Can anyone help?

This could be mineral deposits that have built-up in the pipes and water heater, particularly if the plumbing is quite old. Do you have hard water? This could be the culprit. For more about this, see the HomeTips

It could be sediment built up in your hot water heater.
Does it come out of the faucet only when you're running hot or hot mixed with cold? If it does, try flushing your water heater. For info on flushing a water heater, see HomeTips
